Tomorrow on Turner Classic Movies: The Phenix City Story (1955).
Shot on the actual locations, just a year after the events occurred, and while the murder trials were still going on, The Phenix City Story (1955) tells quite a story. Alabama lawyer Albert Patterson was gunned down outside his office eight days after he received the Democratic Party’s nomination for Alabama Attorney General, largely on a promise to “clean up Phenix City.” Phil Karlson’s film is simultaneously an informative documentary and a searing and brutal film noir.
